Kid-Focused Public Safety Open House Planned In Naperville

The event will feature a simulated auto extrication, a fingerprinting station, food trucks, and McGruff the Crime Dog.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Kids and their families will have a chance to get a glimpse of what it's like behind the scenes for police officers and firefighters at an upcoming Public Safety Open House in Naperville. The Sept. 29 event will feature a helicopter landing demonstration, tricks from the police department's K-9 squad, and a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog.

The Public Safety Open House kicks off at 10 a.m. and demonstrations begin at 10:45 a.m. The demonstrations range from a re-enactment of an emergency vehicle extrication to a flashover fire demonstration in which firefighters show how fast a blaze can grow.

Kids can stop at a fingerprinting station, learn about crime and fire safety, and have their pics snapped with McGruff the Crime Dog and Sparky the Fire Dog.

Food trucks will serve eats between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
