Liquor License Revoked For Mexican Grille In Naperville

City officials say the restaurant had several violations over the past two years.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico has revoked the liquor license for a restaurant in the city after it allegedly committed several violations. Chirico announced Monday that Mexican Grille, located at 1550 N. Rte. 59, had been refilling original liquor packages and serving liquor without a state license.

According to city officials, the violations that led to the revocation took place in June 2018, but were preceded by multiple violations that led to fines over the past two years.

In 2016, the restaurant's liquor license was suspended for three days after patrons were reportedly let back into the facility an hour after it closed, Naperville officials said in a press release. Mexican Grille was charged a $3,000 fine and its entertainment permit and city liquor license were suspended in 2017 after four of its workers were unable to show a valid Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training (B.A.S.S.E.T) card, city officials said.

In the news release, Chirico said he takes his duties as Liquor Commissioner "very seriously." He added, "Over the past several years, I think the Liquor Commission has done an excellent job setting the expectations for our business and restaurant owners. Mexican Grille had numerous violations and yet continued to ignore the rules, and as a result, placed residents and guests at risk.”

Mexican Grille's owner reportedly admitted to the violations and agreed to the license revocation, which took effect on Sept. 6.
