NAPERVILLE, IL — A Montgomery man faces multiple felony charges in connection with a February incident in which shots were fired on Diehl Road in Naperville.

Derrick L. Smith, 32, of the 1800 block of Mulberry Drive, was charged with armed habitual criminal, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon on parole.

Police were called to the 1800 block of W. Diehl Road around 4 a.m. on Feb. 6 for a report of shots fired. During the investigation, officers learned that the shooting happened 45 minutes before they got to the scene and that the involved parties had already left the area. No one was hurt in the shooting.

Charges were filed against Smith after police reviewed surveillance footage of the incident. Currently, Smith is in custody at Kane County Jail for charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
