NAPERVILLE, IL — Naper Settlement will reopen June 2, but safety requirements will be in place to help protect residents from the new coronavirus. The museum will open with limited capacity to start and will impose social distancing and safety measures.

Visitors will be required to wear face masks when inside buildings and when they can't maintain six feet of social distancing. Other features of the museum, including the Rita (Fredenhagen) and John Harvard Early Learning Playscape, will remain closed until further notice.

As of June 4, Naper Settlement plans to offer guided tours on a rolling basis to help encourage social distancing. The guided tours, which will feature the museum grounds and select buildings, will be limited to eight people at a time, according to a press release from Naper Settlement.

Rena Tamayo-Calabrese, president and CEO of Naper Settlement, said in a statement, "The safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors is of the upmost importance. Naper Settlement has done extensive research and has created a comprehensive plan that changes the way we operate both internally and externally to the public. While the visitor experience may be different from previous years, we will continue to safely provide engaging and unique experiences that connect visitors to Naperville’s history.”
