Naperville Cops Issue 36 Tickets During Super Bowl Weekend

"We do it to save lives," police sergeant Derek Zook said.

NAPERVILLE, IL -- Naperville police issued three dozen citations to drivers during the weekend of Super Bowl. The crackdown, meant to ensure driver safety during one of the most dangerous times to be behind the wheel, was part of the nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.

In a press release, police said 26 of the tickets were issued for speeding violations. Two citations were issued for possession of alcohol by a minor and three were given for driving without insurance.

The remaining citations were issued for disobeying a traffic signal and stop signs, unlawful use of a cellphone, and registration violation.

In a statement, Naperville Police Sergeant Derek Zook said "Motorists should understand the warning that we are serious about cracking down on impaired drivers and seat belt law violators." He added, "We do it to save lives."
