Naperville Cops Ticket More Than 200 Drivers For Using Cellphones

The distracted driving crackdown hopes to raise awareness about the dangers of cellphone use while behind the wheel.

NAPERVILLE, IL -- It's illegal to use a cellphone when you're driving in Illinois, but many drivers forget that fact once they're out on the road. Close to 250 drivers in Naperville recently got a wake-up call when they were ticketed for cellphone use and other violations during the statewide campaign against distracted driving.

According to Naperville police, more than 200 drivers were ticketed for using electronic devices while driving. Police also issued tickets for 14 seatbelt violations, more than a dozen speeding violations, and 10 incidents of uninsured driving or driving with a suspended or revoked license.

A routine traffic stop related to distracted driving also resulted in the arrest of a fugitive, according to police.
