Naperville Council Member Gets Obscene Phone Threat: Report

Patty Gustin is hoping the incident won't make women afraid to run for office.

NAPERVILLE, IL --- A Naperville council member who is running for a seat on the DuPage County Board recently filed a report with local police after she got a voicemail of an obscene and threatening nature. Patty Gustin, who is running for the district 5 board seat, got the "sexually threatening voicemail" on Sept. 29, according to Daily Herald.

Police are currently investigating the source of the phone call, which was made by a male and came through to Gustin's cellphone. They say they will pursue misdemeanor charges once they track down the caller.

Gustin told Daily Herald she thinks the obscene message was politically motivated. Police recommended that Gustin meet with voters and colleagues at the Naperville Police station while the incident is under investigation, but she plans to continue with campaign business as usual. She added that she hopes that the incident won't make other women fearful to run for political office.
