Naperville To Discuss Recreational Cannabis Zoning Monday

The meeting will be livestreamed via Zoom at 7 p.m. Monday and residents have until 5 p.m. to sign up to make comments.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville City Council officials will hold a meeting Monday to discuss potential zoning options for recreational marijuana dispensaries in the city. The meeting will be conducted via Zoom and will be livestreamed at 7 p.m.

Naperville has yet to opt in to recreational marijuana sales, but the meeting will be the start of zoning guidance, should the city decide to opt in.

At press time, medical marijuana dispensaries, which are permitted in Naperville, are currently zoned for all industrial districts and certain business districts. These include community shopping center districts, general commercial districts and health services districts.

Residents have until 5 p.m. Monday to sign up to submit public comment for the meeting. Click the link to sign up to speak or submit public comment for Naperville's recreational cannabis zoning meeting.

To tune into the meeting, residents can click the link and navigate to Monday's meeting. The Zoom meeting will also be broadcast on WCNC. Residents can also call the City Clerk’s Office at 630-305-5300, by 5 p.m. Monday to get a number to dial in to the meeting.

The issue of recreational marijuana sales in Naperville has been a polarizing one since the topic first came up for discussion last fall. In September, the City Council voted 6 to 3 to opt out of recreational marijuana sales.

In March, a referendum question about recreational marijuana sales in the city resulted in 53 percent saying they were in favor of recreational cannabis sales in Naperville.
