Naperville Entrepreneur Aims To Unseat Underwood In 2020

The former naval officer has his sights set on the District 14 seat in 2020.

NAPERVILLE, IL --- Lauren Underwood was sworn into Congress less than a week ago for her first term and she's already got a challenger throwing his hat into the ring for her second. Republican Matt Quigley, a former naval officer and entrepreneur who attended Wheaton Warrenville South High School, created a Facebook page in late November announcing his 2020 run to represent District 14.

In a letter shared on Facebook, Quigley mentioned that he earned a masters degree in business administration and went on to create software to assist other entrepreneurs with making business plans. Quigley added that he partnered with libraries throughout the 14th District to make the software available and "has helped hundreds of aspiring small business owners here in the IL-14 and thousands across the United States, Canada and Australia."

Quigley also said he credits "his success to the community of the Illinois 14th Congressional District for giving him his start towards serving the country, the will and perseverance to succeed, and a home to grow his family with his wife Jen and 2-year-old son Jackson."

Underwood made history on Jan. 3 when she became the youngest black woman to be sworn into Congress at age 32. By unseating longtime incumbent Rep. Randy Hultgren (R), Underwood also earned recognition as the first female ever elected to represent the 14th Congressional District of Illinois.

Quigley's campaign website describes his platform and lists such priorities as to "promote strength through peace" and "ensure affordable health care." He also supports the second Amendment and believes that "a human life starts when its own heart starts beating," according to his campaign site.
