Naperville Fire Department Rescues One of Its Own
A firefighter fell through the floor of a burning home into the basement.

Firefighters rescued one of their own Sunday at a structure fire on the 7S600 block of Olesen Drive, according to a release from the Naperville Fire Department.
The NFD received a call at 9:55 a.m. June 7 reporting smoke coming from the chimney and attic of a one-story single-family home on Olesen Drive. When firefighters arrived on the scene, a 360 degree assessment of the home showed fire coming from the rear of the home.
Crews entered the home through the front door and began to control the fire in addition to searching the home for occupants.

Shortly after, a firefighter fell through the main floor of the home and into the basement. Crews rushed in to remove the firefighter from the basement and took him to a nearby ambulance. The firefighter was transported to Edward Hospital in Naperville where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Crews did a second search for any occupants in the home and found no one. The fire was declared under control at 11:35 a.m.

Aside from the injury to the firefighter, there were no injuries to civilians. Crews remained on the scene for several hours looking for hot spots and assisting fire investigators. The home sustained major damage and was deemed uninhabitable.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by DuPage County Police, Naperville Police, DuPage County Building Department, NICOR Gas and ComEd Electric. Fire and ambulance crews from Bolingbrook, Downers Grove, Plainfield, Lombard, Lockport, and Glen Ellyn Fire Departments assisted in providing coverage to the rest of the city during the incident.
