Naperville Liquor Commission Mulls Allowing BYOB Licenses
If the motion is approved, BYOB liquor licenses could change the face of dining downtown.

NAPERVILLE, IL -- Diners in Naperville may soon have more drinking options if a proposal to allow BYOB liquor licenses is approved. The city's liquor commission recently opted to direct Naperville officials to draft up a BYOB liquor license ordinance that would allow restaurants to permit customers to bring their own beer and wine while dining, Chicago Tribune reports.
The initiative also involves amending current liquor license definitions to determine which ones can be made to allow BYOB options. This would give existing eateries the chance to allow BYOB without having to apply for a brand new license.
The issue of BYOB licenses was brought to the table at the liquor commission's Feb. 7 meeting by owners of Balboa's Cheesesteaks. The owners of the Philly-inspired restaurant proposed BYOB with certain limitations that included requiring BYOB customers to show ID, limiting them to three beers per customer, and limiting wine consumption to two bottles for two people.
