Naperville Man, 62, Sets Planking World Record
George Hood stayed in a planking position for 8 hours, 15 minutes, and 15 seconds.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville man now holds a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for longest abdominal plank. George Hood, a former U.S. Marine and DEA special agent, held the plank for eight hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds, according to Guinness World Records. It's basically like he put in a fullwork day planking.
Hood completed the new world record at 515 Fitness, which made a day-long event of the goal on Feb. 15, using the hashtags #breatktheplank and#breakthestigma to raise awareness about mental illness. The day's festivities included live music from local school bands, motivational speeches, raffle prizes and an after-party with pizza.
In 2016, Hood, then 60, first set out to break the record for longest continuous plank and longest cumulative plank time in 24 hours. During that event, he planked for more than 10 hours, shattering his own personal record, which had previously not been sanctioned by Guinness Book of World Records.

To prep for the Feb. 15 record, Hood trained for 7 hours daily over the past 18 months, putting in a total of 2100 hours of plank time, 270,000 pushups and 674,000 sit-ups.
The Feb. 15 record just needed to be longer than 8 hours to unseat China's Mao Weidong, who planked for 8 hours, 1 minute, and 1 second in 2016. Hood went for 8 hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds so he could get the numbers 515 in the world record, inspired by 515 Fitness, the Plainfield gym where it all happened.
