Naperville Man Threatened Grandma With Knife, Stole Money: Police

The 22-year-old was apprehended after being stopped for speeding.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville man wanted for allegedly robbing his own grandmother at knifepoint was apprehended Wednesday after being stopped for speeding. Anthony Olivo, 22, of 920 Fairway Drive, was stopped for driving 70 mph in a 55 mph zone early Wednesday in Wilmington Township, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office. Deputies who stopped him learned he was wanted by Plainfield Police in connection with an April 19 altercation with his grandmother.

Plainfield Police Sgt. Mike Fisher said a warrant for Olivo was issued after relatives called after the fact to request a well-being check on the grandmother. Police said Olivo was staying at his grandmother's Simo Drive home when he became agitated and pulled a knife on the elderly woman.

Fisher said Olivo demanded money and the grandmother complied out of fear. "He left, still very agitated," Fisher said. Relatives later called police, asking them to check on the woman, who had no major injuries, Fisher said.

Olivo was charged with robbery of a victim who is handicapped or age 60 or older, domestic battery, aggravated battery to a victim age 60 or older, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving 15-20 mph over the speed limit. His bond was set at $250,000 and he remained in custody as of Thursday afternoon, according to jail records.
