Naperville Mom, Former Librarian Fighting Leukemia

Susan Hoffman was unable to keep her job at Naperville Public Library after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Susan Hoffman was working as a librarian at the Naperville Public Library when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia(AML). The devastating diagnosis came in October 2017 and the debilitating disease left the mom of three unable to keep her job after five years at the library.

As a result of her job loss, Susan's insurance will be cut off in May, a friend of Susan's told Patch. Her husband is currently without work and they are struggling to afford a bone marrow transplant that could prevent the leukemia from recurring, according to a post on YouCaring.

Now that Susan has undergone the bone marrow transplant, she will be unable to see her children, a 5th grade girl and boy and girl twins in 1st grade, for 100 days due to the risk of germ transmission. Once Susan is out of the hospital by the end of March, she plans to stay at Hyatt House in Oak Brook as her immune system recovers.
