Naperville Police Foundation and FOP Help Citizen after E-bike Stolen

The Naperville Police Foundation proudly announces that in cooperation with the local FOP Lodge 42, a young adult with special needs once again has the electric bicycle that he has come to rely on.

At approximately 8pm on July 6, 2024, an electric bike was reported stolen from the resident at Commissioners Park in Naperville. Thanks to surveillance cameras at the park, the Naperville Police Department discovered that 4 youths armed with water bead/gel ball blasters assaulted the individual and committed the theft. The story was reported by NCTV-17, Naperville Patch, FOX32 News, and others.

The investigation of these four individuals is ongoing, but the victim may never receive restitution. Due to this and the cost of the bicycle, the Naperville Police Department coordinated efforts with the local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 42 and with the Naperville Police Foundation to gather funds and purchase and deliver a new e-bike for the Napervillian.

“This is just one example of the kind of community-supporting efforts that come from the Naperville Police Foundation and the FOP,” notes Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres. “What they did for this young man was incredibly thoughtful and generous. We are beyond proud and grateful to have these supportive organizations by our side, as well as the strong community that supports THEM.”

Chief Arres also noted with gratitude that donations from community members and area businesses are what facilitate this kind of positive effort from both of these non-profits.

The Naperville Police Department also recommends that residents keep a record of all their items of value, including descriptions and serial numbers, to increase the likelihood of recovery in the event of a theft.
