Naperville Police To Hold Prescription Drug Take Back Event
The Naperville Police Department is urging residents to bring in unused or expired prescription drugs on April 28.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville Police are encouraging residents to bring unused and expired prescription meds in as part of National Drug Take Back Day. The April 28 event aims to help reduce the chance for theft, misuse, or abuse of prescription drugs.
Residents who have prescription drugs they'd like to get rid of can take them to the Naperville Police Department, 1350 Aurora Ave., between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the day of the event. Police note that the meds must be in a sealed plastic container so they can dispose of them properly.
Needles, inhalers, and liquid prescription drugs will not be accepted, police say.

The event is a partnership between the DEA and the Naperville Police Department "to raise awareness of prescription drug abuse and encourage the public to prevent prescription drug abuse." More than 6.4 million people abused prescription drugs in 2015, according to the DEA's National Drug Take Back Day website.
Of these, they say, the majority of prescription drugs that were abused were obtained in the person's home or from family or friends.
