NAPERVILLE, IL — It's hard to think about winter in the midst of warmer weather and with summer approaching, but the Exchange Club of Naperville recently honored Naperville Sgt. Brad Marsh for a life-saving act he did in last January's icy cold. Marsh was named Police Officer of the Year by Exchange Club of Naperville in a special ceremony Tuesday.

Marsh and Naperville firefighters helped rescue the 11-year-old boy when he fell through the ice into a retention pond Jan. 12, according to CBS. Marsh tossed a life ring to the boy, whose feet had become stuck in the pond's mud, and helped pull him to safety.

The Exchange Club also recognized Marsh's ongoing efforts to help establish a Crisis Intervention Team that helps the Naperville Police and Fire Departments handle incidents that involve people struggling with mental health issues.
