The Summer Place, Naperville's Community Theatre, starts it's 50th season with Jesus Christ Superstar. Only three more shows this weekend: Friday, June 24 at 7:30, Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 3:00; performed at the spacious Naperville Central High School Auditorium through an arrangement with the Naperville Park District and Naperville School District 203. Free parking. Tickets start at $10. Visit SummerPlaceTheatre.org for details.
The production, directed by Amanda Strolia with musical direction by Emma Gingold, is a powerful new vision of the play. Set in a dystopian industrial world, the stage provides a new look for the classic rock opera, and the powerful voices of the cast bring the beautiful music to life. Here's just a taste of the great sounds.

Summer Place has 2 more big shows after Jesus Christ Superstar. In July, they'll perform an original musical review called 50 Years of Musical from Summer Place Theatre. In August, they'll stage the Music Man, the first musical Summer Place Theatre ever produced, back in 1967, when it was a program at North Central College under the direction of Don Shanower. "Doc" passed away last year but his creation lives on, and Summer Place dedicated this 50th anniversary season to its founder.
