New Exhibit Opening June 10 at DuPage Children's Museum

The exhibit highlights the connection between math and art.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A new exhibit at the DuPage Children’s Museum will help kid explore, experiment and discover math concepts.

Located on the museum’s upper level, Math + Motion highlights the connection between math and art. Real art works are paired with interactive exhibits created by DCM. Math + Motion features motion through tessellation, patterns in music, quilting and geometric patterns. Artists featured include M.C. Escher, Paul Klee and Faith Ringgold.

Math + Motion is about using senses to discover math. It is about the relationship between math and the body, helping visitors consider the following questions: How does it make us move? How do we experience math as a full-body experience? How do we experience math with our senses?

In the exhibit, children will experience full-body movement in the Music Theater, where they can dance along to videos featuring rhythm and patterns or watch themselves on TV as they dance to popular children’s songs while playing a variety of simple instruments.

In the tessellation area, children will enjoy quiet, contemplative infinity puzzles and a large oversized 3D tessellation puzzle. Children can also explore the art of quilting as they create patterns on the Grimm Block Table.
