No More Snow Days?: District 204 Considers Remote E-Learning

E-learning days would do away with snow days, but that also means students wouldn't need to make them up at the end of the school year.

NAPERVILLE, IL -- Traditional snow days may soon be a thing of the past for Indian Prairie District 204 students. The district recently announced that it may implement an e-learning program that will allow students to take part in class remotely when weather is inclement.

The program would allow students to participate remotely in "meaningful, independent learning activities," District Superintendent Karen Sullivan said in an email to parents. She added that it will help students see that "learning can happen anywhere and anytime."

Though the plan would eliminate snow days in their current form, it would also ensure that students and staff won't have to make up emergency weather cancellation days at the end of the school year.

According to Sullivan, the school board must approve the e-learning initiative. If they do, teachers will start rolling out remote assignments when necessary in the fall.
