Ordinance Could Ban Assault Weapon Sales In Naperville: Report

In the wake of the deadly Highland Park parade shooting, Naperville officials are weighing a ban on assault weapons, Daily Herald reports.

NAPERVILLE, IL — The Naperville City Council is weighing a proposed ordinance that would ban the sale of assault weapons within city limits, according to Daily Herald. The move comes in the wake of the deadly shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park.

City officials put the draft ordinance on their agenda Wednesday. The ordinance would prohibit commercial selling of extended magazines, semi-automatic rifles and other assault weapons.

If the proposed ordinance to ban assault weapon sales in Naperville is approved, those who violate it would be fined $1,000 for the first offense and $2,500 if a second offense occurs within a 12-month period, Daily Herald reports.
