Pillsbury Doughboy Shows Up For Naperville Woman's 100th Birthday
Laura Rott won second place in the first-ever Pillsbury Bake-Off in 1949.

NAPERVILLE, IL — When Laura Rott turned 100 Tuesday, she was surrounded by people who have played important roles in her life: friends, family members, and the Pillsbury Doughboy. The giggly mascot paid a special visit to the Naperville woman in honor of her 1949 second-place prize in the first-ever nationwide Pillsbury Bake-Off, Chicago Tribune reports.
Rott, who baked up her Starlight Mint Surprise Cookies for the 1949 contest, won $10,000 and a General Electric Stove for the second prize. She still has the stove in her home.
Pillsbury tracked down Rott after spotting a black-and-white photo of Rott, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Art Linklater in a Chicago Tribune article about Rott's 100th birthday. According to Chicago Tribune, Pillsbury initially sought the photo to use it to promote their upcoming Bake-Off, and was then inspired to cook up a birthday bash for Rott.
