Prizes, raffles, family fun at June 9 Just for Kids Fishing Derby
Free family-friendly event returns to Blackwell Forest Preserve

(May 14, 2019) —Anglers 15 and under are invited to drop a line at the annual “Just for Kids Fishing Derby” on Sunday, June 9 from 8a.m. to noon at Silver Lake at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville.
This free family-friendly event awards prizes in four age categories to anglers who catch the largest of three types of fish or who win the casting contest. The awards and a raffle are announced at the end of the program.
Families can register for the Just for Kids Fishing Derby online 24/7, through Visitor Services at
630-933-7248 weekdays 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., or at the event.

The entrance to Blackwell is on the north side of Butterfield Road (Route 56) 0.25 mile west of Winfield Road and 1 mile east of Route 59.
Throughout the morning, anglers can also talk with Forest Preserve District fishing pros about tips and tricks for fishing DuPage waters.

Fishing is one of the most popular activities in the forest preserves, which have more than 30 lakes, ponds and rivers stocked with bass, pike, walleye andother species. Maps and creel limits are online and in the Forest Preserve District’s fishing guide.
