It’s a morning where everyone in the room is a proponent of positive mental health. Where everyone present is a supporter of women needing counseling. Where everyone gathered is an advocate for a unique women’s services organization in Naperville.

It’s the Silent Samaritans Breakfast, an annual Naperville event organized by SamaraCare, hosted by Hotel Arista, and keynoted by an impactful and relevant author. This year’s event will be on the morning of February 22, beginning at 7:15am, at Hotel Arista Naperville (2139 CityGate Ln.; 630-579-4100). Tickets for the breakfast are $50 per person or $450 for tables of 10, and may be purchased at http://samaracarecounseling.org/event/the-silent-samaritans-breakfast/.

Mary Stimming will keynote the 11th Annual Silent Samaritans breakfast. Mary is an Assistant Director at the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion, serves on the Board of Directors for NAMI Metro Suburban (a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness), and chairs its Advocacy Committee. She has authored many published works, including “Before Their Time: Adult Children’s Experiences of Parental Suicide.”

The Silent Samaritans Program is dedicated to raising funds to ensure that every woman who comes to SamaraCare seeking counseling receives that help, regardless of her ability to pay. These are women in difficult financial circumstances due to divorce, job loss, or abandonment. They are mothers parenting alone, widows isolated in their bereavement, married women in failing relationships, and survivors of domestic violence. They are women who need help from other women. And Silent Samaritans provides the conduit for exactly that.

SamaraCare wants the importance of mental health, access to mental health and the pursuit of mental health to be pervasive. Dr. Scott Mitchell, President and CEO of SamaraCare is proud of the part played by the annual breakfast in helping to lessen the stigma of mental health care. “The Silent Samaritans Breakfast has become an anticipated community event where people come together to openly and honestly discuss mental health and to support the women and children who turn to SamaraCare for help during difficult times.” Silent Samaritans Committee Chair Natasha Marriner adds, “We emphasize that there is no health without mental health, and that it is the responsibility of us all to reduce the stigma and raise awareness of available resources. The Silent Samaritans Breakfast event is the perfect means for this effort.”
