September 11 Memorial Honors Memory Of Naperville Man
The ceremony will feature remarks from retired Army Captain Charles F. Johanns, Mayor Steve Chirico, and more.
NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville residents will gather on September 11 to pay tribute to the lives lost nearly two decades ago in the September 11 attacks. The ceremony will be held at the city's Dan Shanower Memorial, which was built in 2003 to commemorate a Naval officer and Naperville native who was killed in the attack on the Pentagon.
The event's featured speaker is retired Army Captain Charles F. Johanns, who served with late Mayor Pradel on Naperville's 9/11 Memorial Commission. Johanns served in the Army Reserves until 1968, before becoming a docent at Naper Settlement and a professor at North Central College.
Current Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico will also speak at the memorial ceremony. Live music will be provided by the Naperville Municipal Band.
