Suicidal Son, 47, Ties Up Dad, Attacks Mom In Naperville: Police
Police say the 47-year-old man later barricaded himself inside his home and threatened suicide.

NAPERVILLE, IL --- A Naperville man faces multiple felony charges after he allegedly attacked his mother, tied up his father and beat him, and then barricaded himself with weapons inside their home near Scullen Middle School Friday afternoon. Eric Multer, 47, who suffers from mental illness, was suicidal at the time of the attack, his parents told police.
Multer's parents called police after they were able to escape the incident, which took place in the 10000 block of Helene Avenue.
Multer's father has been hospitalized with injuries that are not life threatening and the mother is with police, according to a press release from Will County Sheriff's Department. According to Will County Sheriff's spokesperson Kathy Hoffmeyer, the mother sustained bruises and the father required stitches on his lip.

When police got to the scene, they set up a safety perimeter until they were able to get Multer out and take him into custody. Multer reportedly told police he had been hiding behind the home near a pond.
Scullen Middle School was placed on lockdown as a result of the attack.

Principal Leslie Mitchell posted on the school's website that traffic in the area was restricted due to a "neighborhood situation." Parents picking their kids up Scullen Middle School had delayed entrance to the school as buses were being dismissed first.
Multer has been charged with aggravated battery, unlawful restraint, and domestic battery.
