Shot Fired On Basketball Court In Naperville After Argument: Cops

Police say a man fired a shot during an argument in the 700 block of Genesee Drive Wednesday night.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville police are asking for the public's help finding a man who fired a shot at someone during an argument on a basketball court Wednesday night and then fled on foot.

Police were called to the 700 block of Genesee Drive around 7:30 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Shortly after, police found a man who fit the suspect's description near North Aurora Road and Fairway Drive. The suspect ran off on foot and police were unable to locate him during a subsequent search involving a K-9 unit.

An initial investigation shows that the suspect got into an argument with another person, retrieved a handgun from a bag and then fired a shot, according to a news release. Police say no one was hit by gunfire, but a shell casing was found in the area.

Police are looking for a Black male between 20 and 30 years old, standing between five feet eight inches and five feet 11 inches tall, with a thin build. Police say the suspect has short hair and tattoos and was last seen wearing blue jeans, no shirt and armed with a handgun.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with information. Those with info are encouraged to call the Naperville Police Department at 630-420-6665 and ask for the investigations division.
