Some Lake County polling places remained open until 9 p.m. Tuesday following an Election Day court ruling.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said Lake County Clerk Willard Helander was “illegally interpreting” election laws and won a court order Tuesday to keep some polling places open past 7 p.m. for unregistered voters because the sites didn’t open until 10 a.m., the Daily Herald reports.

The fight centered around the way provisional ballots were handled, the newspaper reports.
