Two Elmhurst Businesses Robbed At Gunpoint Tuesday Evening
Elmhurst police don't know if robberies are related, investigation continues, cops say.

Elmhurst police are investigating a pair of armed robberies of a yogurt shop and mobile phone store that occurred hours apart on Tuesday evening.
Around 5:30 p.m., a man entered Yogen Fruz at 275 N. York Road. Police said the robber approached the cashier displaying a handgun and demanded money.

The cashier handed over an undisclosed amount of cash to the man, who fled the store on foot. A police K-9 tracked the robber’s scent which ended on Michigan Street, east of the business. No one was hurt in the incident.
The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-20s, 5-feet-10-inches and weighing around 200 pounds. Police said the suspect was wearing a dark sweater, jeans and a stocking cap.

A few hours later around 8 p.m. two men robbed the Verizon store in what appears to be a takeover robbery.
Police said the men moved two employees and three customers into a back office. The robbers helped themselves to all the cellphones and then went back to the office where they demanded employees open the safe.
Once the safe was opened, the men grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the store on foot. The employees and customers remained in the back office. No one was hurt in the robbery.
Witnesses described both suspects as black males in their mid-20s. The first suspect is approximately 6-feet- tall with a thin build.
The second suspect is 5-feet-8-inches tall, with a stocky build.
Both incidents remain under investigation by the Elmhurst Police Department Detective Division. Police have not determined if the robberies were carried out by the same people.
