Why do Families Wait to Intervene on a Substance Abuser?

Free workshop offers professionals the opportunity to learn new ways to work with substance abusers and their families.

Substance abuse affects the whole family, not just the abuser. Sometimes the best course of action for those closest to the abuser is to educate themselves about the dynamics of addiction and help the abuser see and feel the negative consequences of his or her behavior. Unfortunately, most families do not intervene, but instead wait until something worse happens. Rosecrance, in collaboration with David Lee, is offering a free training to professionals to equip them with the tools to guide the families and substance abusers toward help. Participants will learn how a family system struggles with addiction, what the disease model is and how it works, how emotions are high jacked by the addict and how to spot red flags.

David Lee is the founder of Indiana-based Intervention Services and Technologies, the largest intervention services provider in North America. Lee has more than 10 years of experience in interventions, addiction counseling, family systems and recovery.
