Why every woman deserves attention on Mother’s Day – by Natalia Dagenhart

Let's celebrate all women on Mother's Day.

It happened maybe ten or eleven years ago. It was a beautiful Mother's Day – sunny, warm and pleasant. We had neighbors, a nice couple maybe in their early fifties, who didn't have children. That day the husband came back home with a huge colorful bouquet of flowers. “Happy Mother’s Day,” he said to his wife and she smiled. I saw how pleased she was. It was so touching, that I almost cried.

Mother’s Day is a great holiday when children show their appreciation to their mothers. It is very important to do that every day, of course, but it is also good to have a special day to show love, respect and gratitude. However, that neighbor taught me a great lesson that day. Every woman, whether she had a chance to become a mother or not, deserves attention and appreciation on that day. And there should be someone who should give it to her.

Many of those women, who wanted to have children but for some reason were not able to, have the heart of a mother. They could be teachers, doctors, nurses, nannies, waitresses, veterinarians, you name it. Many of them take care of other people’s children and share with them their love and warmth. There are not many chances for them to hear the words of appreciation, so why not give them that appreciation on Mother’s Day?

Our neighbor’s wife worked in a bakery at that time. I remember coming to that store and watching her work – she was very warm and friendly to everyone, especially to children. Her kind eyes showed so much love when she was suggesting the kids just the right kind of a desert! Always nice and attentive, she shared her unspent love with the children of other people. Who knows what she felt during those moments? One thing I know for sure – she loved children.

Let’s celebrate all women on Mother’s Day, especially those who always dreamed about having a child. We don’t know what they went through. We don’t know all their pain and sorrow. Let’s celebrate them, because they have the heart of a mother.
