Young Naperville Singers recently presented “Rise Up!” Concert
Young Naperville Singers recently presented "Rise Up!", a celebration of leadership for women.

On Sunday, February 2, at Wentz Hall in Naperville, the young women of Young Naperville Singers welcomed La Caccina, a professional women’s vocal ensemble, and Women Leaders from the Naperville community. Among these women were Illinois State Senator Laura Ellman, Deputy Chief of the Naperville Fire Department, Amy Scheller, Executive Director of Giving DuPage, Shefali Trivedi, and many more!
The women leaders, La Caccina, and the young women of YNS sang “Brave”, by Sara Bareilles, and brought the house down for the finale of the concert. The audience rose to their feet immediately when the song finished!
Young Naperville Singers, under Artistic Director Angie Johnson, is celebrating its 36th year - boasting 10 choirs and 440 singers. “Rise Up!” is a new venture for Mrs. Johnson and YNS, inviting women leaders from across the region to perform and highlight leadership among young women. The women leaders spoke with the young women of YNS, and shared their personal stories of struggle and success. The overall message from the women leaders was one of empowerment, and each leader provided a quote of encouragement for the girls - these quotes were shared aloud during the concert.

La Caccina provided musical artistry and leadership to the “Rise Up!” performance. They invited some YNS Cantabile singers to share their hopes for the world on the song, “Letter from a Girl to the World” by Andrea Ramsey. They collaborated with the YNS Bella Cantare choir to sing the eponymous “Rise Up” by Jake Runestead. All eight of the women of La Caccina came out to Naperville the night before the concert to rehearse and share their stories of finding joy and success in music careers; because of their heartfelt enthusiasm for singing professionally, many young women of YNS were inspired and hopeful to be able to pursue a musical dream as well.
Carling Fitzsimmons, Artistic Director of La Caccina, said of the experience, “When we started La Caccina, there were so few places for young women to share their voices and know they would be heard; working with and listening to [the YNS singers] last weekend, we know that the future is in very good hands.”
