2 Hospitalized, New Lenox Apartment Fire Displaces 5 Families

The two-story apartment fire broke out around 5 a.m. Sunday.

NEW LENOX, IL - Two people were hospitalized in stable condition after a fully engulfed structure fire broke out at a five-unit apartment building around 5 a.m. Sunday. The fire broke out in the 1200 block of Timber Place. The fire began in an attic and quickly spread causing the roof to collapse, New Lenox Fire Protection District officials announced in a press release.

It took New Lenox firefighters until around 6:30 a.m. to get the blaze under control.

Five families have been displaced by the fire, the fire department indicated. "The New Lenox Fire Protection District is working with the Village of New Lenox on securing a donation point for anyone who would like to help the families," the press release noted.

The cause is currently under investigation by MABAS 19 Investigation Team, Will/Cook/Grundy Investigation Task Force, ATF, and the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.
