Today's Fact: There are 686 New Lenox residents who live below the poverty level. Here's a deeper look at the numbers:

  • Seniors hit harder: About 2.5 percent of residents ages 18-64 live below the poverty level, but that rate jumps to 6.8 percent for people older than 65.
  • Educational impact: For residents with at least a bachelor's degree, no one lives below the poverty level. But 22.4 percent of residents who didn't graduate high school (92 total above age 25) are living below the poverty level.
  • Sex doesn't matter: Men and women are equally impacted in New Lenox. About 3 percent of men and 2.8 percent of women are living below the poverty level.
