8 Providence Catholic Athletes Make College Commitments

The eight come from Shorewood, New Lenox, Mokena, Homer Glen, Channahon and Wilmington.

NEW LENOX, IL - Providence Catholic High School has announced that eight of its senior student athletes have made commitments to continue on with sports at the college level. The eight students live across Will County including Shorewood, New Lenox, Mokena, Homer Glen, Channahon and Wilmington. Providence has a long and proud tradition of excellence when it comes to athletics. Providence notes that it has 30 state championship titles which is the most among the state's private high schools.

"We are extremely proud of these young men and women for their hard work both in the classroom and on the field," Providence Athletic Director Doug Ternik said in a press statement.

Ternik added, "We wish them the very best in college and in the future."

The following information supplied by Providence contains bio information on its eight student athletes:

Sophia Davis of Mokena, daughter of Christopher and Paula Davis, will continue her tennis career at Lewis University and plans to major in business. Davis is a graduate of St. Mary's Mokena and member of St. Mary's Parish. Davis has been an honors student and a member of the varsity tennis team for all four years. Davis was a conference and sectional champion throughout her four years and state qualifier her junior and senior year. Davis also received the MVP Award her final year.

Taylor Young of Homer Glen, daughter of Robert and Kathy Young, signed her National Letter of Intent to play softball at DePaul University on an athletic scholarship and plans to major in education and minor in special education. Young is a graduate of Oak Prairie Jr. High School and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Young has been an honor student and has been a member of the softball team for the past four years. Young also received First Team All-Area, First Team All-Conference, and First Team All-State for softball.

Cole Smith of Channahon, son of Shane and Caroline Smith, signed his National Letter of Intent to continue wrestling at Old Dominion University on an athletic scholarship. He plans to major in psychology with a second degree in education. Smith is a graduate of Channahon Junior High School and a member of St. Mary's Minooka Parish. During his time at Providence Catholic, Smith was named three-time All Area Team, two- time All-State team, two- time MVP Wrestler, thee-time regional champion, sectional champion and 5th and 2nd place in the state tournament.

Nicholas Jones of Wilmington, son of Scott and Treva Jones, signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at University of Memphis on an academic and athletic scholarship. Jones is a graduate of Coal City Middle School and a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. Jones has been a member of NHS for two years and a member of both, football and baseball teams for four years. Jones has been an honors student and received the English, Physical Education, and US History awards during his time at Providence Catholic.

Dakota Kotowski of Channahon, son of Adam and Erin Kotowski, signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at Missouri State University on an athletic scholarship. He plans to major in construction and project management. Kotowski is a graduate of Channahon Jr. High School. Kotowski has been an honors student and a member of both the football and baseball teams for all four years.

Emily Pilon of Shorewood, daughter of Jeffrey and Kimberly Pilon, signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her softball career at St. Leo University on an athletic and academic scholarship and plans to major in biomedical and health science with a minor in psychology. Pilon is a graduate of Cathedral of Saint Raymond School and a member of Cathedral of Saint Raymond Parish. Pilon has been a member of both the softball and basketball teams for all four years and was named softball MVP, and captain of both teams. Pilon has been an honors student and a member of AYM, Habitat for Humanity, NHS and was a student sacristan.

Ryan Kaup of New Lenox, son of Mark Kaup and Linda Roat, signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at Wabash Valley College on a full ride athletic scholarship and plans to major in accounting. Kaup is a graduate from Century Jr. High School and a member of Trinity Lutheran Parish in Tinley Park. Kaup has been a member of both the baseball and hockey teams for all four years. Kaup received the MVP and most improved player award in baseball.

Gavin Jaime of Shorewood, son of Guillermo Jr. Jaime and Kandyce Bermudez, signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his track and field career at Central Michigan University on an Academic and Athletic Scholarship and plans to major in Pre-Med/biology with a minor in Spanish. Jaime is a graduate of Minooka Jr. High and a member of Minooka Bible Church Parish. Jaime played football for three years and track and field for four. He has been an honors student, and a member of NHS and a served as a counseling aide. Jaime received the MVP award two years in a row and the Anthony R. Lawless Award for outstanding performance in indoor track and field.
