Blotter: Thieves Hit TJ Maxx Store

It's time once again for another edition of the New Lenox Police blotter.

NEW LENOX, IL - The following incidents of criminal activity happened in New Lenox during the past week. This information was supplied to New Lenox Patch by the New Lenox Police Department:

November 7

At 3:33 a.m., an officer noticed two people arguing in the Culver’s parking lot and stopped to investigate. While investigating, the officer had contact with Dorothy Campbell, 55, of the 4200 block of Kungs Way Drive, Joliet, and learned that she had an outstanding warrant out for her arrest for failure to appear. Campbell was arrested and transported to the NLPD. Campbell posted bond and was released.

November 8

At 10:28 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of Laraway Road and Calistoga Drive in reference to a stolen purse. The complainant advised that a man approached them in the parking lot. The man grabbed their purse from their arm, ran to an awaiting car, and fled the area. The purse was later recovered on the side of a road and returned to the owner. It was learned that the vehicle that the offenders fled in was stolen out of Bloomington, Illinois.

November 8

At 12:17 p.m., an officer was dispatched to TJ MAXX. The complainant advised that two people stole approximately $600 worth of clothing from the store.

At 6:54 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a driver of a vehicle operating a handheld device. The officer conducted a traffic on the vehicle and met with the driver, Erica Mancera, 28, of Lockport. The officer observed a child in the back seat that was not fastened into a child restraint device. The officer further learned that Mancera had an outstanding Will County Warrant out for her arrest. Mancera was transported to the NLPD. Mancera posted bond and was released.

November 9

An officer was dispatched to Walgreens on South Schoolhouse Road in reference to a fraudulent prescription. The officer learned that Kenyetta Cobb, 34, of Chicago, provided a fraudulent prescription for medication and was attempting to have the prescription filled. Cobb was transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

November 10

At 1:42 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 100 block of East Joliet Highway investigate malfunctioning railroad track gates. Upon arrival, the officer observed a vehicle stopped at the tracks. The officer noticed that when the gates went up, the vehicle did not move. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer observed the driver, James Westferro, 27, of the 2000 block of Stapleton Road, slumped over the wheel. After several attempts to wake Westferro, he woke up. Upon further investigation the officer learned that Westferro was driving under the influence of alcohol. Westferro was transported to the NLPD. Westferro posted bond and was released.

November 10

An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of West Lincoln Highway investigate a two-car crash. While investigating the crash, the officer learned that the driver of one of the vehicles, Matthew Doyle, 27, of the unit block of NW Circle Drive in Joliet, was driving under the influence of alcohol. Doyle was transported to the NLPD. Doyle posted bond and was released.

November 11

At 4:07 a.m., an officer was dispatched to Speedway, 800 block of West Lincoln Highway, in reference to an Armed Robbery complaint. The complainant advised that two men entered the store with their faces partially covered. One of the offenders displayed a handgun and demanded money from the cash register. The complainant opened the register, one grabbed the money from the drawer, and they fled the scene on foot to an awaiting vehicle. Approximately $100 was taken.

November 11

At 10:44 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Bull Dog Ale House in reference to a theft. The complainant advised that someone stole their wallet while they were in the restaurant and attempted to use their credit card to pay a bill while in the restaurant.

November 12

An officer was dispatched to IHOP in reference to a Fraud complaint. The complainant advised that a couple paid for a bill using a fraudulent $100 bill.

November 12

An officer was dispatched to Schooner Drive in reference to an Identity Theft Complaint. The complainant advised that they received a message online indicating that they needed to update their Apple account information. The complainant updated her information and immediately received a telephone call from someone alleging to be from Apple. The complainant provided access to their computer along with other credit card and bank account information before realizing they were being scammed.
