Grace church’s Gothic style sanctuary windows are known as “Grisaille” (grey) style leaded (pure lead) stained glass windows. Grisaille stained glass have a prevailing greyish tint, they used black or brown fusible paint for shading on the glass. The delicate fields of brownish grey sets off the religious symbols. Grisaille glass is glass that has been painted and fired.

These monochromatic panes of white glass with black or brown painted outlines were favored by the churches to admit more light, to diminish the intensity of blue or to accentuate contrasting colors, and simply to save money.
