Apartment Fire Leaves Woman Hospitalized

An ambulance was called to transport one of the victims.

NEW LENOX, IL - One woman was taken away by ambulance after a fire broke out shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday in New Lenox at the Hickory Apartments. The New Lenox Fire Protection District issued a press release two hours later explaining that the fire was reported at 5:09 on Hickory Street near Vine Street. "Once the (firefighters) arrived on scene there was heavy fire which could be seen coming from the back side of the building and the structure fire was quickly upgraded to a full-still," the press release stated.

New Lenox Fire Chief Adam Riegel later relayed that firefighters got the apartment building under control within about 10 minutes. The apartment building had four separate units. The woman who was injured was taken away by ambulance to Silver Cross Hospital.

Her condition was not immediately known.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Paramedics transported one of the victims to Silver Cross Hospital.
