Car Egged and Tires Flattened in Southwind Drive Vandalism: Police

Semi-tractors parked on Degroate Road targeted in recent window breaking spree.

The following information is from the New Lenox Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Burglary to Motor Vehicles

An officer was dispatched to the 400 block of Degroate in reference to a complaint of a burglary to motor vehicles at 4:16 a.m. on March 7. The complainant advised that an unknown person broke a window to four semi-tractors and entered the trucks without permission. No property was reported missing.

Vandalism

An officer was dispatched to the 2700 block of Southwind Drive at 9:48 a.m. on March 8 in reference to a complaint of vandalism. The complainant advised that an unknown person(s) egged their vehicle and let the air out of their tires.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

An officer was dispatched to the 1800 block of Eagle Circle at 7:11 a.m. on March 9 in reference to a complaint of criminal damage to vehicle. The complainant advised that the rear window of their vehicle was broken out by an unknown offender while it was parked on the street.

Retail Theft

Madeline E. Gurnitz, 25, Joliet was charged with retail theft at 4:22 p.m. on March 10 at Walmart. A complainant advised that Gurnitz paid for several items which she purchased but that Gurnitz failed to pay for several items of clothing ($22) which she placed in her purse. Gurnitz was stopped by the complainant upon exiting the store without paying for the items.

Jaimie L. Johnson, 24, Joliet was charged with retail theft at 2:15 p.m. on March 3 at Walmart. The complainant advised that Johnson paid for several items which she purchased but bserved that Johnson failed to pay for several items of clothing ($228) which she had hidden in a bag and a car seat. Johnson was stopped by the complainant upon exiting the store without paying for the items.

An officer was dispatched to Jewel/Osco, 475 Nelson road at 10:34 a.m. on March 11 in reference to a complaint of retail theft. The complainant advised that during an inventory, a theft of medication and liquor was discovered.

DUI

Brenda K. Bernardoni, 73, of the 1500 block of Cimarron Drive was charged with failure to signal and driving under the influence of alcohol at 8:29 p.m. on March 10 at Spencer Road and Somerset Lane. An officer was dispatched to the area in regard to a reckless driver. and located the suspect vehicle. The officer then observed the vehicle commit a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, Bernardoni, was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Amanda R. Herrera, 30, Joliet was charged with speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol at 3:07 a.m. on March 12 at Lincoln Highway and I-80. An officer was running radar and observed a vehicle speeding before conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle. The officer learned that the driver, Herrera, was under the influence of alcohol.

Eric W. Ball, 35, Mokena was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 4:39 a.m. on March 12. An officer was on patrol and observed a vehicle driving erratically. The officer also observed an equipment violation on the vehicle. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and learned that the driver, Ball, was under the influence of alcohol.

Candise R. Phelan, 26, Manteno was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 7:04 p.m. on March 12 at Lincoln Highway and Schoolhouse Road. An officer was dispatched to the area in regard to a welfare check on a motorist. The officer located the vehicle which was stopped in the roadway and checked on the driver and learned that the driver, Phelan, was under the influence of alcohol.
