Crews Battle Fire at Industrial Building

The fire was in a one-story industrial condo and took combined effort from multiple fire departments an hour to put out.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries Thursday afternoon while dousing a fire in an industrial building.

Crews responded to a call for a possible oven fire just before 1 p.m. in the 21700 block of S. Center Avenue.

When the first company arrived on the scene, the one-story industrial condo building was showing signs of smoke. Upon further investigation, the NLFPD went into a full-still for a structure fire. The fire was out by 1:55 p.m., according to a release from the NLFPD.

The NLFPD received assistance from other fire districts including: Lockport, Manhattan, Orland, Peotone, Mokena, Richton Park, Homer, NW Homer, East Joliet, Frankfort, Palos, and Troy. The New Lenox Police Department and ESDA also assisted on the scene.

The firefighter was transported and released from a local hospital. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
