CVS Pharmacy, 2 Food Venues Building In New Lenox
Substantial construction is underway for the new CVS Pharmacy, which has been long awaited.

NEW LENOX, IL - A long awaited new retail strip mall in the heart of New Lenox is taking shape. For more than a month, heavy machinery and backhoes have been building the new strip mall at Cedar Road and Route 30. This will be the site of the new CVS pharmacy. And it will also be the home for two new additions to New Lenox: a Durbin's Restaurant & Lounge as well as Darla's Cafe & Deli.
New Lenox Patch has been reporting about the prospect of the new CVS Pharmacy coming to New Lenox since early 2017. The new CVS will occupy land that once was a BP gas station. CVS bought the land from the village of New Lenox in 2016 for $1.8 million, according to past articles from New Lenox Patch.
Mayor Tim Baldermann told Patch he is excited the CVS development is coming together. He expects the new pharmacy, plus Durbin's and Darla's to open for business in 2018.

Baldermann said the Durbin's food menu will be similar to their Manteno location. New Lenox will also be an expansion for Darla's, which has a deli in Tinley Park.
"CVS is moving along real well," the mayor said. "That center will be open this year. That's the goal."

Besides those three, the upcoming New Lenox strip mall includes commercial space for another tenant, Baldermann noted.
"They're close to closing on a third tenant," the mayor said Monday.
The development is known as the Rock Island Center. It's just south of the Metra commuter train lot at Route 30 and Cedar Road.
"It cleaned up a blighted area, and it's providing sales tax revenue that will help build the much needed new train station," Baldermann said.
