Drowned Boy's Father Sues His Own Parents For Allegedly Letting Child's Death Happen
The 3-year-old reportedly wandered out of his grandparents' home and drowned in a neighbor's pool.

The father of a drowned 3-year-old sued his parents for allegedly letting the boy die.
Shaun Kackert filed the wrongful death lawsuit against his mother and father, Crystal and Donald Kackert, in Will County court.
Shaun Kackert’s son Nathan Kackert drowned in a Homer Glen swimming pool in July 2013.

Shaun Kackert, his wife, Linda Kackert, Nathan and their other son, Ryan Kackert, were visiting Donald and Linda Kackert and staying at their home on Chicago-Bloomington Trail in Homer Glen over the Fourth of July holiday.

At the time, Shaun Kackert was an Army staff sergeant stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. He was to be sent to Afghanistan that winter.
Nathan reportedly wandered out of his grandparents’ home and drowned in a neighbor’s in-ground pool.
“The truth is that Nathan found a way to unlock the front door while everyone was asleep, wander next door and fell into an in-ground pool with an open gate,” Donald Kackert said at the time.
“Hindsight vision is always 20/20 and all of us will be haunted by ‘what ifs’ for the rest of our lives,” Donald Kackert said. “Sometimes circumstances line up in ways that present tragic results. Now we only have fond memories of a sweet, young boy with no future.”
