How many people in New Lenox actually took advantage of savings on the electric bill through the village's new deal with Direct Energy?

When the village struck a at a bulk price, residents were told they could knock off about 25 percent of their electric bill, or fend for themselves and try to find even better prices.
So how many people took advantage of the offer? Residents could opt out of the deal or were automatically enrolled at a rate of 5.89 cents per kilowatt hour. Seniors could get a cheaper rate (5.79 cents per kWh) and there was an option for renewable wind energy (6.19 cents per kWh).

5,897 people got the normal rate of 5.89 cents
232 people applied for the senior rate of 5.79 cents.

903 people opted out of the program.

19 communities in northern Illinois approved electricity aggregation this year.
50 or more municipalities are expected to do so after the next election, with Mokena and Frankfort exploring the option.
