Foodie 5K coming to Chicagoland Speedway

Northern Illinois Food Bank’s Foodie 5K is roaring into Chicagoland Speedway on Oct. 3 to help hungry neighbors.

Don’t miss the exclusive opportunity to run and walk on the apron of the Chicagoland Speedway track at the Foodie 5K presented by Meijer on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Joliet. Participants in this unique event will finish in Pit Row before moving on to Winner’s Circle for a post-race festival featuring gourmet food trucks, activities for kids and live entertainment from the Nick Lynch Band. All proceeds from the Foodie 5K benefit Northern Illinois Food Bank, where $1 donated provides $8 worth of food for neighbors in need. Northern Illinois Food Bank provides food to more than 71,000 people each week through a network of more than 800 community food pantries and feeding programs in 13 counties. In Will and Grundy Counties, Northern Illinois Food Bank combined to provide more than 8.6 million meals last year through more than 100 local food pantries, soup kitchens and feeding programs.

The Foodie 5K is a chip-timed race open to all ages. All registered participants receive a $2 food truck voucher to be used at the post-race festival. Participating food trucks include Babycakes, Best Truckin’ BBQ, and Cupcakes for Courage.

Register on or before Sept. 11 for a $30 early-bird registration discount and to receive the official Foodie 5K long-sleeved shirt. Registration after Sept. 11 is $35. The registration fee for ages 6-12 is $15, and ages 0-5 are free.

All Foodie 5K participants are encouraged to fundraise, and anyone who fundraises more than $100 is eligible to receive prizes that include a waist pack runner’s belt, a folding cooler chair and an Amazon gift card.

The Foodie 5K in Joliet is the third of three Foodie 5K events taking place in 2015. The first two Foodie 5Ks of the year were held April 11 in Wheaton and May 9 in Libertyville and attracted more than 2,000 participants.
