Garbage Truck Fire Leaves Mess In New Lenox
The truck dumped its load in the street to prevent the truck from erupting in flames.
NEW LENOX, IL - The New Lenox Fire Protection District responded to a fire on Thursday afternoon that was unusual. It involved a garbage truck. New Lenox firefighters were notified of the fire at South Cedar Road and East Fourth Avenue around 2:45 p.m.
"When we arrived on scene, rubbish inside a garbage truck had caught fire, but the truck was able to dump it out before it sustained any damage," New Lenox Fire Public Information Officer Marissa Schrieber stated in a news release.
Firefighters were able to douse the fire. New Lenox's public works staff also brought in one of their end loaders to help extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire is undetermined, Schrieber indicated.
