Jessica Prince, a New Lenox Girl Scout and Senior at Lincoln Way West High School recently earned the Girl Scout Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts of the USA. Only about 5% of eligible Girl Scouts successfully earn this prestigious award. It is given to girls who demonstrate leadership through a service project that provides a lasting impact on their community. Jessica's project consisted of volunteering over 100 hours of work to host a land restoration workday called Sharefest. At this event, people of all ages were invited to local forest preserves to help clear invasive species to enable native ones to flourish. In addition, she also created an educational website outlining land restoration where volunteer opportunities are posted. You can visit the website by going to www.illtreehugging.weebly.com. Congratulations Jessica!
