Give to the Least ~ Inherit the Kingdom

34Then the king will say to those at his right hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,36I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” 37Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” 40And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”   ~ Matthew 25:34-40

Parents help their children, not only when they are growing up, but even during adulthood.  This is just the nature of things.  Parents do not like to see their children struggling - especially when they need something that will keep them safe or will further their career, but the child does not have the funds with which to handle such expenses at the moment.  Parents try to step in and help their children when needed, even after they have grown up - at least they try when the grown child allows them to help.

God is like this as well.  He does not like to see His children struggling with hunger, joblessness, homelessness, addictions, loneliness, pain and illness.  He tries to step in where and when His children allow Him to intervene on their behalf, but sometimes, it takes more than just God's own divine intervention.  Sometimes, it takes His other children to be His instruments of His peace to intervene in His name.  God expects us, as His children, to care for one another.  When we see others in need, we are to share His love by reaching out to those less fortunate and help care for them.

This is what we were created for - to be reflections of God's love to each other, as well as to love God.  The way to best love God is to share His love with others.  Isn't it time we do this very thing?  There are many ways in which we can share God's love with others less fortunate within our own communities as well as around the world.  We need to find our way to share God's love every day and take action.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

Help us to be more aware of the needs of others around us and to share Your love with them in whatever way they need help, not just notice them and walk away.  Amen.
