Helpless Ant, or Accomplished Laborer?

35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’ ~ Matthew 9:35-38

There are times that we feel helpless.  We look at situations around us and think that there is no way that we can make a difference.  We see world hunger, disease, catastrophic events and think that one mere person cannot do enough to help ease the problems of the world.  Or can we?

If you watch an ant, it will struggle along, accomplishing great feats by moving things much larger than they are.  With perseverance, they provide food for their colony, help rebuild the ant hill that has had damage done to it, and scout for other food sources to send others out to gather.

People can do great things as well.  Though one person may not seem like they can accomplish much, many doing just their little bit accomplish great feats.  Helping take someone to a doctors appointment or to the hospital that are unable to take themselves relieves not only the patient, but their family members who are struggling to juggle schedules to accommodate their loved one's needs.  Aiding those who have experienced a disaster by donating items or time to help rebuild means so much to an overwhelmed community.  As the old saying goes - "many hands make light work."

Where can you help out today?  Where can you minister to others and what types of ministries "tickle your fancy?"  Come, experience the "Ministry Fair" this Sunday at the United Methodist Church of New Lenox, 339 West Haven Ave., New Lenox, IL between the 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. worship services, or after the 10:45 a.m. service to see the many avenues in which you can serve our Lord.  "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few."  Learn where you can make a difference in our church, community and around the world!

Prayer,
Heavenly Father,May I find my "passion" for serving You and follow Your leading to accomplish great feats in Your name.  Amen.
