Shots Fired At Homeowner Who Found Man In His Driveway: Cops

NEW LENOX, IL — A homeowner was shot at when he went out to his driveway to investigate an alert from his security system, Joliet Police said. Joliet Police responded at 2:43 a.m. Friday in the 3300 block of Crazy Horse Drive in New Lenox for a call of a person being shot at.

Police said the homeowner was alerted by his security system that there was motion detected in his driveway. The homeowner turned on the outside lights and saw a man inside a car parked in the driveway.

According to police, the homeowner went to confront the man, who left the parked vehicle and ran towards a waiting dark-colored vehicle. The man fired several shots at the homeowner before he entered the car and fled the area.

The homeowner was unharmed, but the home itself was struck by bullets, police said.

The suspect was described as a black man wearing a white hoodie and armed with a gun.

“If you see someone burglarizing a vehicle, do not approach the person. It is not worth getting injured or risking your life. The best and safest course of action is to immediately call the police and give a description of what the person is wearing and their last direction of travel. Items can be replaced, but people can’t. We don’t want our citizens to put themselves in dangerous situations,” Joliet Police Chief Al Roechner said.

Joliet Police continues to investigate this incident.
