In Due Season

Can you lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season,
or can you guide the Bear with its children? ~ Job 38:32

Today is the first day of spring, although it is hard to believe that the season has really arrived, with the few scattered snow flakes that greeted me as I walked out the door to go to work this morning.  The sky was still grey and depressing, and the grass still brown, although still covered here and there with remnants of snow drifts from the winter that just does not want to leave just yet.   The sun did eventually fight its way through the clouds by late morning to show that there is a hint of spring in the light of the sun with grass trying to change to its prettier green color.  Just as we cannot control the constellations in the sky, neither can we control the seasons just because what we label "the first day of spring" has arrived.

We, as Christians, go through seasons as well.  There are times we are on fire with the Holy Spirit, accomplishing all sorts of good things in the name of our Lord.  There are other days where we seem dormant in our faith, like it is hibernating or stagnant.  God has us all here for a purpose and our purpose may not always be to be on fire.  We may have times that we are just here to help others along behind the scenes when times get tough.  Whatever God's purpose is for us, He determines when and how to use us.

Are you ready to feel God's gentle tug on your sleeve to do His work at His timing?  Are you expecting to be on fire all of the time?  Remember, whatever His purpose for you is, He will use you when and where He needs you.

Prayer

Father in heaven,
We do not always know exactly what it is You wish for us to do in Your name, or when to do it.  Help us to always be aware of and ready to follow Your urging to do Your bidding at the times You need us to do them.  Amen.
